Devices To Use

You can use the Plex app on your TVs but you'll get a better experience by buying a dedicated media player. Buy either the Google Streamer 4K or the nVidia Shield Pro 4k 2019.

TV Picture Settings

Optimize your TV picture settings before watching movies or shows so the image looks closer to the filmmaker’s intended presentation.

Go into your TV’s picture settings or expert controls before watching movies or shows.

  • Turn off unnecessary image-processing features that distort the picture, including:
    • Dynamic Contrast
    • Super Resolution
    • Edge Enhancer
    • Color Filter
    • Noise Reduction
    • True Motion / Smooth Motion / Soap Opera Effect
  • The “soap opera effect” should especially be disabled because it makes films look unnaturally smooth and less cinematic.
  • Switch from “Vivid” mode to a more accurate picture preset such as:
    • Movie
    • Cinema
    • Dolby Vision Movie Dark
  • Avoid overly bright, oversaturated, and artificially sharpened settings that alter the filmmaker’s intended look.
  • Double-check settings manually, since some TV presets may not disable every enhancement automatically.
  • Aim for natural color, accurate contrast, and realistic motion rather than exaggerated image effects.
